The Domino Effect – How Dominoes Can Change Your Life
Dominoes are small, flat, rectangular blocks that are used for many different games. They’re known by various nicknames, such as bones, cards, tiles, stones, spinners and tickets.
There are many variations of domino games and each one is a little bit different from the last. However, most games involve laying down pairs of tiles that contain the same number of pips on each side. The goal is to collect as many pairs as possible. During the game, each player tries to draw tiles from their hand that they can rely on to make their next move.
The first domino that a player draws will have the most energy in it, so it will have the biggest push when it falls. The potential energy stored in that domino will then be available to help the player knock over the next one in line.
As the domino falls, its potential energy converts to kinetic energy, the energy of motion (see Converting Energy). It’s this motion that helps the next domino to knock over its own.
It turns out that this is also the same energy that can be used to help change your behavior! When people try to eat better or exercise more, the new habits they establish cause other, unrelated habits to change as well.
These changes can be a way to improve your health or your life in other ways. For example, one study found that people who cut back on sedentary leisure time were more likely to eat healthy foods and exercise more often.
When you start a new habit, it’s important to keep your long-term goals in mind. This is the most important part of any behavior change, because it gives you the motivation to stick with it.
But you may find it hard to prioritize all of your ideas. It’s easy to get bogged down by the details of each individual task, and to forget about what the larger goal is.
Fortunately, the concept of the domino effect can help you keep your bigger goals in mind. Once you identify the one activity you want to focus on, if you work on it a little each day, it will eventually be easier to push on other interests and habits that come along with it.
The process of identifying the one habit you want to change starts with a brainstorming session, where you think about what you’re interested in. After you’ve done that, it’s a good idea to make a list of all the ideas you have.
You can then group the different ideas into categories that you’re most comfortable with. This will help you decide which ideas you’ll focus on today and which ones to leave for later.
In the future, you can keep this list handy and reference it whenever you’re tempted to procrastinate or avoid taking action on an idea. This will help you remember that there’s a bigger goal to reach and will make it easier to push on other activities that aren’t as important or interesting.
